The SEC's 10 Greatest Skill Position Football Players (Since 1970)

This list is factual accurate and indisputable, unless you disagree.

1) Hershel Walker, #34, Georgia, 1980-1982.
Georgia was 6-5 in 1979. In 1980 a senior from Johnson County High School signs to play for the Dawgs. The results are 12-0 and a National Championship for the previous year's 6-5 team. In Walker's three years he loses one regular season game. If he played his senior year instead of

Painful Worship in Church Music Wars
QUESTION RECEIVED:

Our worship team plays the music at a very high decibel due to which I use ear plugs. Our Pastor explains that when we get to heaven there will be millions of Angels who will be constantly praising God Almighty and the decibel level will be far greater then at our church. Your thoughts on this please

Are Mormons Christian? Of Course Not
QUESTION OUT THERE THAT IS NOT BEING ANSWERED ACCURATELY:

Are Mormons Christian?

My Answer:

No, By the words of Joseph Smith, who founded Mormonism or The Latter Day Saints, Nope. This religion was started in complete opposition to the Christian faith
Smith considered the protestant Christian church apostate and he founded a new religion and in complete opposition to Christian doctrine.
There are too many quotes of his to list that validate this.
So why are Mormons trying to pass as Christians?
Why can people, especially Christians,  not honestly confront this?
Do we hate Mormons?
No.
Can we talk factually about what Christianity is?
Lately in this "can't we all get along world" facts are avoided.
Can Christians vote for a Mormon?
Yes, but that is for someone else's article.
Can Christians actually think that Mormons are Christians?
Only if they are not dealing in facts and only feelings.

Mormons are people who are known for outstanding moral values.
They often feel misunderstood.
They feel others do not represent them well.
This article is not about the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (known as LDS or Mormon) heretical teaching about Christ and salvation.
This post is not about the LDS teaching of Jesus being the brother of Satan.
This article is not about "As God once was man can be." that Mormons are taught.
This article is not about progressive revelations in the Mormon church.
Mormons of course will speak well about the man Jesus.
That will be dealt with in another post.
Islam thinks Jesus was a great prophet.
Muslims do not think they are Christians.
We will talk about what is Christianity.

The seminary that I earned my Master of Divinity degree from was Candler School of Theology at Emory University.
This is not a seminary known for being associated with the so called evangelical Christian right.
No scholar there would consider Mormonism Christianity.
No scholar from Yale, Harvard, Princeton would , that I know of, consider Mormons Christian.
Certainly no scholars from so called conservative schools like Dallas Theological Seminary, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary or New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary or Beeson Divinity School would by any means consider Mormons Christian.
Why would all these schools be correct in stating that Mormons are not Christian?

Here are two essential Christian beliefs that are flatly denied by LDS teaching.
1. The Deity of Christ.
Christ was fully God and fully man.
Jesus clearly identified with being the God known by the Hebrews from their beginning. Jesus says He is "I Am". I Am is the Hebrew first understanding of God in Genesis.
John 8:58
English Standard Version (ESV)
"58Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am."

The Apostle Paul went further in describing the Deity of Christ. In Galatians Paul claims direct revelation from Christ as Christ made the gospel known to him.

Philippians 2:5-11 (ESV)
"5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

2. The Trinity
The fullness of the Godhead is a mystery completely consistent from Genesis to the book of Revelation. This fullness is God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. They are tree distinct personalities unified in the Godhead. The fullness is explained best through Jesus Christ.

Matthew 28:19
English Standard Version (ESV)
"19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,"

People can argue on points of minutia.
These two main parts of the core of Christianity can not be disputed by Mormons or Christians who know what they believe.
I do not support the constitution of France or its principals of government. I am not French, even if I try to convince others that I am.
Be loving in your response yet honest in sharing what and why you believe.

1 Peter 3:15 English Standard Version (ESV)
"15but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,"

Know who Jesus Christ is. Believe the one and only gospel that saves.

In Christ Alone!

Your Excuse For Not Forgiving Others Was Destroyed By God
Here is a question from a blog post I read from Got Questions?.org, on 8/19/11, concerning Christians being required to forgive people even when they were not asked or apologized to by the offending party.
"Since God does not forgive until a person confesses/repents, does that mean we can withhold forgiveness from those who sin against us until they confess/repent?"

In my time as a minister I can remember many people who have confided in me with the problem of not being able to

11 Greatest University of Georgia Football Players 1940-2011

This post is motivated by a Bill King AJC Junkyard Blawg.

My 11 GREATEST GEORGIA BULLDOG FOOTBALL PLAYERS (updated)

Criteria is Georgia play and plus - in most cases their pro success.
Brief bio on the most well known players.
This is the real deal and not decided on by public relations junk or favorites. This is not who primped or PR'd the media. Just show me the facts and hardware.
Longer post on the lesser known Dawgs for today's younger fans.

#1 Herschel Walker 1980-1982 Jersey #34 retired
He was 18 years old. He signed with a 6 win and 5 loss team. He plays for them the next year. Now they are a 12 win ZERO loss team that are National Champs-because he played for them. On ESPN Bud Wilkinson called him the best football player in 1980, co-host Jim Simpson said "In America?", Bud said "No,The planet." Jersey retired. Dooley's hallmark years.

#1-A Charlie Trippi- RB 1942, WW II service 1945, 1946 Jersey #62 retired
He is the only player in the Pro Football Hall of Fame with 1000 yards of receiving, 1000 yards passing, and 1000 yards rushing. Trippi attended the University of Georgia and was a two-time All-America selection. He played for Georgia in 1942 along side Heisman winner Frank Sinkwich. Georgia finished the season 11-1. He was named Most Valuable Player in the 1943 Rose Bowl in Georgia's 9-0 victory over UCLA. He won the Maxwell Award in the 1946 season. After his college career was interrupted by World War II.  He completed his career at Georgia by playing in 1945 and 1946. Jim Thorpe (The world's all time greatest athlete - my opinion backed up by hardware) called him the best football player he had ever seen. Bill Hartman called Trippi the greatest defender to play at Georgia as a defensive back.  He was my father's favorite and he led to my Dad's conversion away from white and gold.  Thanks Charlie, the jackets got some but ugly uniform colors.

#2 Frank Sinkwich RB 1940,1941,1942 Jersey #21 retired
From Athens /Online Mark Lancaster
"UGA Highlights: Won Heisman Trophy in 1942, the first Southern player to win the award. Consensus All-American in 1941 and '42. Rushed for 2,271 yards and passed for 2,331 yards during his career, scoring 60 touchdowns - 30 rushing and 30 passing. Named Most Valuable Player of Orange Bowl on Jan. 1, 1942, after leading Georgia to a 40-26 win over TCU with 139 yards rushing, 243 yards passing and three touchdowns. Scored the only touchdown in Georgia's 9-0 Rose Bowl win over UCLA in his final college game, despite playing on two sprained ankles. As a junior, set SEC rushing record of 1,103 yards which stood for eight years and is still the seventh-best season total in UGA history. As a senior, set SEC passing record of 1,392 yards, which also held up for eight years. Still holds UGA record for touchdown responsibility in a season, with 27 in 1942. Original member of UGA Circle of Honor in 1996. Was the first Bulldog to have his jersey retired; his No. 21 was honored in 1943."

#3 Francis Tarkenton QB 1958,1959,1960 Jersey #10
The DAWGS had a bad decade in their 1950's football fortunes. They went 10-1 and won the 1959 SEC title because he played for them. He always won-Athens High,UGA.  Plus he had  many Super Bowl trips pushing inferior teams of his to the max with the Minnesota Vikings who came up short despite his efforts.
Great Pro. Retired with all the major NFL passing records and as the leading all time passer, which is often forgotten. The "Scrambler" is underrated still. Some folks at UGA seem to resent him, maybe it's a personality thing. WINNER-Documented!

#4 Jake Scott Safety 1967,1968 Jersey #13
Big plays, interceptions punt returns for touchdowns and "swagger".  Plus he allegedly drove his motorcycle over the basketball coliseum riding up and down the swooping arches that lead to it's roof.
He was the #13 Miami Dolphin who won Super Bowls (Taste it Marino). He motivated by performance and a personality that made James Dean look like a conformist.
Under-publicized due to he did not have to answer to reporters, or Dooley or Shula with the Dolphins. He let his greatness talk for him.
1968 SEC player of the year at Safety. Super Bowl VII MVP. Six years with the Miami Dolphins and three Super bowl appearances. The Fish should have a statue of this #13 at their stadium.

#5 Bill Stanfill 1966,1967,1968 Jersey #77
Won all the lineman awards in major college football. SEC titles in 1966 and 1968.  Three time All-American.
Altered the game plan for the other team. Dolphins All-PRO. Two time Super Bowl Champ. Long time holder of the Dolphin sack record. Still underrated. Not even close to who ever you think the number 2 next best DL is for UGA or in the SEC in the 1960's.

#6 Terry Hoage 1980, 1981,1982,1983 Jersey #14
Blocked a field goal in the 1981 Sugar bowl as a little used freshmen.
He led the team in tackles and nation in interceptions in 1982. Long time pro.
He was a DB back when you got attention by performance. He was not a 5 star recruit. He was a no star recruit.  Coach Dooley always bemoaned his lack of athletic ability.  Hogwash.  Tall-a leaper-strenth-plus enough speed to play along time in the NFL.  Sacks, leading the nation in interceptions, blocked kicks. What else do you want?

#7 Champ Bailey DB/WR 1996,1997,1998 Jersey #4
Head Football Coach Jim Donnan got the most out of Champ. From Chicago Tribune, July 25, 1999 "Bailey was regarded as one of college football’s greatest multiple threats (offense, defense and special teams) in his three seasons at the University of Georgia. During his final year at Georgia as a junior, he registered 52 tackles (four for losses), three interceptions, seven passes defensed, 47 catches for 744 yards (15.8 avg.), five touchdowns, 84 yards rushing on 16 carries, 12 kickoff returns for 261 yards and four punt returns for 49 yards. He averaged 103.5 all-purpose yards per game and logged 957 plays (547 defense, 301 offense and 109 special teams) on the way to earning consensus All-America and first-team All-Southeastern Conference honors and claiming the Bronko Nagurski Trophy as the nation’s top defensive player following his junior season. Against Virginia in the Peach Bowl, he caught three passes for 73 yards, including a 14-yard touchdown, rushed three times for nine yards, returned five kickoffs for 104 yards, returned a punt 12 yards, and posted two tackles and one pass defended at cornerback. In three years at Georgia, he played 33 games (24 starts) and recorded 147 total tackles, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble, eight interceptions and 27 passes defended. He was an All-SEC first-team selection as a sophomore, starting every game at left cornerback and one game at wide receiver. Bailey set a school indoor long jump record in 1998 of 25-10 3/4 feet to finish third at the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships."
Champ crushed Michigan DB Rod Woodson in performance.  Woodson won the Heisman.
1999 NFL Draft  -  Bailey was drafted in the first round (seventh overall) of the 1999 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins. He is playing still for the Denver Broncos as an every year all pro.

#8 Len Hauss Center 1961,1962,1963 Jersey #56
He is the lone player from the era of head coach Johnny Griffith. From his Georgia Sports Hall of Fame Entry -   "Hauss attended Jesup High School, where he played high school football as a fullback. As a senior, he rushed for 1,500 yards and scored 15 touchdowns. At the University of Georgia, where he became a center. He received All-Southeastern Conference honors as a sophomore.
Professional career- Hauss was drafted in the ninth round (115th overall) of the 1964 NFL Draft. He started his first game at center four games into the 1964 season, a job he would not lose until retirement. Hauss helped lead the Redskins to the Super Bowl VII in 1972. He started 192 consecutive games for the Redskins between 1964 and 1977. He was named to the Pro Bowl each year between 1967 and 1972."

#9 David Pollack 2001,2002,2003,2004 Jersey #47
From http://www.georgiadogs.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=8800&ATCLID=543287
"David Pollack attended Shiloh High School in Snellville, Georgia, and was a star in football, basketball and wrestling. In football, as a senior, he was a Class 5A All-State selection and the Atlanta Touchdown Club named him the Defensive Lineman of the Year.
College career
Pollack played with the University of Georgia and was a roommate of NFL quarterback David Greene.
He was a the second 3-time All-American. (2002, 2003, 2004) In addition to his All-American honors, Pollack received the:
2002 Southeastern Conference Player of the Year Award,
2004 Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year Award,
2004 Chuck Bednarik Award: given annually to the top collegiate defensive player,
2003 and 2004 Ted Hendricks Award: given annually to the top collegiate defensive end,
2004 Lombardi Award: given annually to the top defensive or offensive collegiate lineman who, in addition to outstanding performance and ability, best exemplifies the discipline of Vince Lombardi, and
2004 Lott Trophy: given annually to a defensive player exemplifying integrity, maturity, performance, academics, community, and tenacity.
His signature play came during the second game of the 2002 season. Pollack batted down a pass from South Carolina quarterback Corey Jenkins in the South Carolina end zone and managed to catch the ball in the end zone before it hit the ground; Pollack was credited with a 0-yard interception return for a touchdown. Pollack ended his college career with 36 sacks, a University of Georgia all-time record."
He is the Dawg of the 2000's.  His G.A.T.A. (Get After Them Aggressivenely is what you told your Mom it meant)  that he supplied was sorely missing from the Dawgs attitude after he left.  he was the Cincinnati Bengals #1 pick.  A broken neck stopped his pro career.

#10 Mike "Moonpie" Wilson
"Moonpie" was unheralded when he signed with UGA from Johnson High School in Gainesville.  Heplayed right tackle on the 1976 Champs as they were a running team. Played on the goal-line defense. Consensus All-American. Played in Canada one year. Played till he got tired of it. he was in the NFL fourteen years for the Cincinnati Bengals and Seattle Seahawks. UNDERRATED. The best OL in UGA history. Signed with Canadian league and played one year with Dawg teammate "Cowboy" Joel Parrish before he went with the Bengals.

#11 George Poschner End 1940,1941,1942 Jersey #41
Because he is tougher than any Rambo movie, or any body you might have put at #11 from anywhere.
Here is a long entry on a little known story about the toughest Bulldog ever.
From the George Poschner entry in the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame -
"Poschner was born in Youngstown, Ohio, and came to the University of Georgia as a result of the efforts of his good friend, Frank Sinkwich. When Sinkwich was recruited by Georgia, he accepted the scholarship on the condition that Poschner would be granted a scholarship as well. Poschner earned All-America honors in 1942, and was selected in the eighth round of the 1943 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions.[4] The most celebrated event in Poschner's collegiate career came when he caught two fourth-quarter passes from Sinkwich in a 21-10 win over Alabama in 1942.
Military service
Poschner served in the United States Army in World War II, where he received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Distinguished Service Cross. On January 8, 1945, Poschner participated as a lieutenant in the Battle of the Bulge. While advancing into enemy territory, he was severely injured by machine-gun fire and did not receive medical treatment until two days later [He was laying in the bloody snow unattended]. Poschner lost both legs and several fingers as a result of his injuries. A New York Times report on Poschner's injuries observed, "His brilliant pass receiving added much to the reputation of All-America Frank Sinkwich, also of Youngstown, as a forward passer". The news report added that "Poschner's mother advised Coach Wally Butts of her son's case".
Legacy
Poschner was admired as much for his military valor and buoyant optimism as he was for his impressive achievements on the gridiron. In 1982, his former teammate, Frank Sinkwich, lauded him at a testimonial dinner held at Youngstown's Croatian Home. "Knowing George has made me stronger all my life", Sinkwich said.
In his letter nominating Poschner to the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, Sinkwich wrote: "In my opinion, George Poschner is perhaps the greatest competitor of all time, both on and off the field. I have never known anyone with more courage on the football or the battlefield". Poschner was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 1982, and the Orange Bowl Hall of Honor in 1985.

11-A Hines Ward 1994,1995,1996,1997 Jersey #19
From "sports.yahoo.com - Ward still plays with chip on his shoulder - Feb 1, 2010". Yahoo!
Retired Feb 1, 2012:     As a wide receiver for the University of Georgia Bulldogs (1994–1997), Ward's 149 career receptions for 1,965 yards placed him second in team history. He also played tailback and totaled 3,870 all-purpose yards, second only to Herschel Walker in Bulldogs history. In 1996, Hines had 52 receptions for 900 yards, and also ran 26 times for 170 yards. In 1997, Hines hauled in 55 passes and scored six TDs, getting All-SEC honors in the process. Ward played some quarterback his sophomore year, and holds Georgia bowl records for Pass Attempts, Pass Completions, and Passing Yards in the 1995 Peach Bowl in which he completed 31 of 59 passes for 413 yards.
4× Pro Bowl selection (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004)
3× 2nd Team All-Pro selection (2002, 2003, 2004)
2× Super Bowl Champion (XL, XLIII)
Super Bowl MVP (XL)
3× Steelers MVP (2002, 2003, 2005)
Steelers Career Records for Receptions, Receiving Yards, & Receiving TDs"
When he was a Steeler he made the Raven defense scared of his lethal de-cleating blocks.
Sorry for this late edition- I almost left this all time great off.
**********************************************************************************

Please send your THOUGHT out comments.
* Note-Georgia has had many great offensive linemen, DB's and TE's. Surprised by how few great [not just favorite] QB's and LB's UGA has had in it's long football history. We are talking Best.
I hated to leave off -OL Edgar Chandler, Royce Smith, Guy McIntyre, Mack Guest and John Kasey senior.
QB's Andy Johnson and Preston Ridlehuber, Buck Belue, David Greene [he was probably my #13].   RB's Glenn Harrison, Willie McClendon [way underrated], Garrison Hearst (great stats but always hurt it seemed).
DL Jimmy Payne, Eddie "Meat Clever" Weaver. Steve Greer.
DB's Jeff Sanchez
LB's Chip Wisdom and Ben Zambiasi, Knox Culpepper, Rickey McBride, and short lived sensation Sylvester "The Sacker" Boler.
WR's Andre Hastings, Charles Whittemore, TE Dennis Hughes, Pat Hodgson.

Kickers- Bobby Etter, Alan Leavitt, Rex Robinson, Kevin Butler.
Punters- "Spike" Jones, Chris Carpenter, Drew Butler.

What happens to dogs in the hereafter?
I have heard answers about questions on pets in Heaven from others.
I have heard the question answered. Some people say no animals are in heaven because they have no souls. Their reasons are based on the thought that animals do not have redeemable souls. But they have to have worth to

The Real War On Christmas And The Mythical "Silent Night"

Every year I try to slow down at Christmas and not get eaten by the cultural add-ons that our American society has saddled the Advent season with. We should be declaring and celebrating the Good News in the season that tells of the birth of Christ. Too many church programs, school programs, office parties, our overindulgence in spending, finding perfect presents and growing in debt make us frantic.
Beside all the the cultural trappings we miss the power of the Word of God addressed to God's people trough out the ages.

Even our Christmas carols of a religious nature miss the mark as we look back at the incarnation of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ, whose name means "Savior" and "Anointed One", the long awaited Messiah, gets His message of forgiveness

If he played his senior year instead of signing with the USFL he would never be surpassed as the NCAA all time rushing leader. In 1982 he won the Heisman. He could have won all three years. Voters were not

Pastors Retiring or Quitting?

QUESTION RECEIVED: Is it biblical for Pastors to retire?

MY ANSWER:

That has been asked before. "Is it Biblical for pastors to retire?" The answer is simple, there are no retirements of ministers in the Bible or talk of 401K and IRA plans for gospel ministers. The great Billy Graham once said that the Apostle Paul never retired. But that statement was made before old age and infirmity wore him down. I have talked to several Methodist ministers around age sixty. They have taken early retirement. Their stated reason that no one wants

WHY THE TEBOW HATE?

This past month their have been many articles concerning Tebow hatred.
"Tebowing" is a new fad and mockery of his faith.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J56R_s5FPfA

I had a much commented on blog in April 2010 about this.

WHY THE TEBOW HATE?

From Tebow.
Strong reaction to him. Love or hate. Why?

Are Mormons Christian? Of Course Not

QUESTION OUT THERE THAT IS NOT BEING ANSWERED ACCURATELY:

Are Mormons Christian?

My Answer:

No, By the words of Joseph Smith, who founded Mormonism or The Latter Day Saints, Nope. This religion was started in complete opposition to the Christian religion.
So why are Mormons trying to pass as Christians? Why can people not honestly confront this? Do we hate Mormons? No.

QUESTION RECEIVED:
What is an evangelical? What is the difference between the "old evangelical" and the "new evangelical"?

MY ANSWER:

It has been said that saying you are an "Evangelical Christian" is redundant.
Christians share the "Evangel" or "Gospel" often referred to as the "Good News". Being evangelical means we share the "Gospel" or "Good News". The Good News is that we are all born

Churches-Tithing and Benevolence Ministry

QUESTION RECEIVED FROM A PASTOR: We have a family in financial need in our church, and this question comes to me from one of our members. It has been suggested by a member to give of her tithes to this family to help them in need (and it is important to note that this will be a short term need) and bless them.
My initial thought is considering God asks us to be obedient in tithing, we should continue to tithe to the church; however, God may be teaching this family to have a greater dependency on Him during this time ... yet be teaching this member to help this one family by giving sacrificially. I was wondering if I could get the thoughts (of perhaps another Pastor) on this issue as to whether or not they should help this family with all their tithes, or should they tithe regularly and perhaps help this family above and beyond (if they are able). Thanks and God bless you!

MY ANSWER:  It is great to help others. Yet is this tithe given to a family really a tithe to the Lord? These are thoughts for you to consider as you want

QUESTION RECEIVED:

In regards to Bible schools: The thing I'm a little confused about is that if you know the Bible well enough to determine whether the teachings of the school are good or not, I wouldn't think you'd need to go to a bible school in the first place, but if you don't, then how are you going to know if the school has good teachings?

A Bible study on The main Topics Of The Apostles' Creed
(as usually recited today)

The basic creed of churches, as most familiarly known, is called the Apostles' Creed.
We view it as a concise declaration or affirmation of orthodox or solid Christian historical teaching. It is under the authority and not equal to Scripture. It has received this title because of its great antiquity; it dates from very early times in the Church, a half century or so from the last writings of the New Testament.

THE APOSTLE"S CREED

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Maker of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
He descended into hell.
The third day He arose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost;
the holy catholic church;
the communion of saints;
the forgiveness of sins;
the resurrection of the body;
and the life everlasting.
Amen.

Lesson #1

I Believe in God!
This is a bold statement in today's world.

Two things have changed in our generation to change our society's view of God
1. Atheist are very outspoken.
http://www.rationalresponders.com/

2.Eastern religions and religious plurality have changed our view in America about one God.

Julia Roberts is Hindu: Is America ready for a Hindu sweetheart?
By Elizabeth Tenety
http://newsweek.washingtonpost.com/onfaith/undergod/2010/08/julia_roberts_is_hindu_is_america_ready_for_a_hindu_sweetheart.html

Monotheism was a bold declaration in the days of the ancient Hebrews relating to the other ancient world's religions.
Here is the "Shema" as Jews reference Deuteronomy 6:4.
Deuteronomy 6:4
English Standard Version (ESV)
4"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one."

Unbelievers are not "The problem" with Christianity.
"The" Problem is our very high view of man
and our very weak and biblically inaccurate view of the "Creator of Heaven and Earth".

Who is God?
Exodus 3:14 (ESV) "14God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM." And he said, "Say this to the people of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you."

Genesis 1:26 (ESV) "26Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."

(In Revelation both God and Jesus Christ are the Alpha and Omega -The First and Last- thus the Word confirms the Trinity.)
Revelation 1:8 (ESV) 8 "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord ***God***, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty."

Revelation 22:12-16 (ESV) 12"Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay everyone for what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end. "14Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates. 15 Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.
16 "I, ***Jesus***, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star."

TRINITY VERSES CONCERN GOD THE FATHER> GOD THE SON> GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT

John 14:9 (ESV) "9Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?"

Psalm 139:7-8 (ESV)
7 Where shall I go from your Spirit?
Or where shall I flee from your presence?
8 If I ascend to heaven, you are there!
If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!

Joshua24:19 (ESV) "But Joshua said to the people, "You are not able to serve the LORD, for he is a holy God. He is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions or your sins."

What is His character?
1 John 4:8 (ESV) "8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love."

Do not go to some guru or philosopher when He is very glad to tell you Himself who he, God, is.

1 Samuel 2:2 (ESV)
"2 "There is none holy like the LORD;
there is none besides you;
there is no rock like our God."

Deuteronomy 4:24 (ESV) "24For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God."

Hebrews 12:29 (ESV) 29for our God is a consuming fire.

He answers clearly in the Word about Himself these things -
1. Who He is
Isaiah 40:28 (ESV)
28Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding is unsearchable.

2. What he is to be called, (Here is a website with most names of God in the Bible.)
http://www.aboundingjoy.com/Bible%20studies/Names%20Of%20God.htm

3. How he is to be treated and approached and worshiped. This is where Jesus sat by the Samaritan women at a well. She was ethnically, religiously and morally opposite to the norms of worship. There was real hope for her.

John 4:23-25(ESV) "23But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth." 25The woman said to him, "I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things."

4. God tells us what His character is and His attributes-
Exodus 34:5-8(ESV) "5The LORD descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD.6The LORD passed before him and proclaimed, "The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, 7 keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation." 8And Moses quickly bowed his head toward the earth and worshiped."

5. How He has dealt with humanity.
John 3:16 (ESV)
16"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."

6. How humanity has disappointed Him.
Romans 3:23-24(ESV) "23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,"

7. How He has made our reconciliation possible.

Romans 3:24 (ESV) "24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,"

8. How He loves us.
Psalm 136:2 (ESV)
2Give thanks to the God of gods,
for his steadfast love endures forever.

9. How He will judge us.
Romans 2:15-16(ESV) "15They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them 16 on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus."

10. His plans for us.
1 John 3:2 (ESV)
2Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.

Romans 8:16 (ESV)
"16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,"

Galatians 4:5-7 (ESV)
"5 to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. 6And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" 7So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God."

11. There is no one , thing or god like Him. King David marveled at this simple but yet complex fact.

1 Chronicles 17:20 (ESV)
20There is none like you, O LORD, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

So we have a loving Holy God who is jealous of His name.
His standards are high. We must be holy.
We cannot be holy and obey the law. We, his children have rebelled.
Through His great love, he sent his only Son. Through whose perfect life, and his sacrificial death, for our benefit, He, Jesus Christ, paid the price for our sins. The wrath of God intended for sinners was placed on Christ at the cross. Jesus Christ received the sin of believer's on the cross. Believer's though sinners receive the righteousness of Christ in the eyes of God.
We then can be saved. We can have peace with God. We can fellowship with God forever.
We are saved by God, from the wrath God.
This is a God you need.

Baptism-"You Can't Just Go Around Dunking Folks On Your Own."

QUESTION RECEIVED:

Do you have to be ordained to baptize someone and where in the bible does it talk about it?

MY ANSWER:

No there is no Scripture in the Bible that says you must be ordained to baptize someone. BUT-----------------
The people who baptized in the New Testament were John the Baptist, Jesus and the Apostles. So we have a record of the most solid church leaders ever baptizing.

Christ commissioned the Disciples(Apostles) to make disciples, baptize, and teach his commands. Was this commission just for the disciples or for the church? It was for the church unless we think we in the church are not supposed to make disciples, baptize or teach the commands of Christ. With this freedom and commission from Christ we have great

Witnessing To Family; Explosive Feelings Yet A Biblical Mandate

QUESTION RECEIVED

I caught my father watching pornography and confronted him with it. My father consistently repeats that he finds no fault watching pornography, tv and movies with profanity etc. His behaviour, thoughts and actions have led me to the conclusion that he is definitely not a born-again Christian. There is no awareness of sin against God or family whatsoever. My father states that he will determine for himself how he will live; he is not the least concerned about the Judgment. He does however insist on going to church with us every Sunday. I repeatedly asked him why he still goes if won't bow before God, but he says that's not my business. My father's presence in church prohibits my joy and fellowship within the congregation, makes it seem unholy. I want my father to stop attending church. MY ANSWER:

"Sympathy For The Devil" is the the name of a 1968 Rolling Stones song.
Your question obviously brings that to mind.
Why should Satan have sympathy, mercy or grace?
Humans are not owed grace. Satan who once served God has no chance of grace. This is by the just decree of Jesus Christ. Grace is God's unmerited favor poured out to those who repent and believe the gospel by nothing else but the undeserved and unearned love of God. There is nothing

"Next Level Anointing" Junk Compared To The Jewels of Christ

QUESTION: "Is the Next Level Anointing biblical?"

MY ANSWER:

Is the "Next Level Anointing" biblical?
NO. Why? It is not in the Bible.
This looks like the latest gimmick of the false prosperity gospel.
You might know this false gospel as the old "Name It And Claim It" game.
Old school prosperity preachers used to promise great financial gain would be in store for you when you sent them money. Testimonies concerning miracles of health, n new cars, money made and personal financial gain are hooks these folks use so you will send in "seed" money to their ministry.

In my time as a minister I can remember many people who have confided in me with the problem of not being able to forgive someone who had done a great emotional, physical or criminal wrong to them.
How or why should a Christian forgive when a violator performs a crime with intent to harm, when the offender perpetrates physically, emotionally or financially against you or an innocent loved one. Today hateful persons

When Thugs Ruin the The Lord's Supper, and church unity

Question Received:

In my church, some believers are not in good relationship with each other. Or in other words living with hatred to some other believers. They are also partaking in the Holy communion without any hesitation. If we could not convince them about their position in connection with the breaking of bread, what should we do . Should we leave that assembly? Kindly advice.

You are right God did change Jacob's name to Israel.
Genesis 32:28 ESV
"Then he said, "Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed."

But the Bible, and thus The LORD, does not stop also in referring to Jacob as Jacob and now also Israel. Here is the story of Jacob.
Jacob is the son of Issac, who was the son of Abraham. Abraham was in covenant with the LORD that he would be blessed through Issac a royal lineage. Jacob, who would be known as Israel would have the twelve

Modern Bible Translations And An Inerrant Infallible Bible

QUESTION RECEIVED:

I have two questions related to John 5:3b & 5:4. 1. If the bible is the inerrant word of God and John 5:3b - 4 are not found in the oldest manuscripts then why are they in most translations but not all? 2. If John 5:3b - 4 are really words of John inspired by God then why do some teach that the "Angel stirring the water is superstition of the day". It seems that would be a stretch to not take this as literal if it is the Word inspired by God.

Torrey (a Congregationalist) was part of the "higher life" or Keswick movement which taught a powerful work of the Holy Spirit by "Letting go and letting God". No historical facts have Moody practicing speaking in tongues, though he was friendly towards charismatics. R.A. Torrey wrote articles against what he called the falsehood of this practice. The modern charismatic movement was well before Finney's (A Presbyterian) time. This practice was not recorded

Why and For Who Is a Contemporary Worship Service?

Question Received:

I am attending a church where there are two worship services on Sunday morning. Both these services are the same in worship style. As a result of a demographic study our pastor has decided that we are going to change our 11:00am worship service into a distinctive contemporary worship service. A praise & worship leader has been obtained to conduct this service and many musicians from without the church have been invited in to participate in this worship service. We have a good number of elderly who attend the 11:00am worship service and cannot attend the early service for one reason or another. Our pastor is using

Christianity's Cancer -The Universalist View of Salvation

Christianity has a great problem. It is not some intramural snit concerning worship practices. The problem is that the church has a cancer in it called Universalism, or the belief that salvation is for all people, no sins forgiven no judgement, no Hell. Therefore, the cross of Jesus Christ is even called by some Universalist as "divine child abuse" as it served no purpose. So their so called good news is that this is really as good as it gets.

When we look at the church, "The Body of Christ", "The Kingdom", "The House of God", "The Family of God", we must love her because God declared her, and us, to be worthy
for Jesus Christ to die and

Combating Bad Christian Zingers, Tweets, Unbiblical Thinking- Concerning The Christian Religion, Christian Heritage and The Jewish Jesus?

QUESTION RECEIVED:

If someone were to ask me "what religion do you believe in?" Can i tell them i do not belong to a religion? I accept Jesus as my Lord and only Savior, and i want to be just like him. Jesus did not belong to any religion, he taught the word of God, so can i do the same? My Pastor said our church does not call ourself by a religion, but we follow what the bible says. So do i have to call myself a Christian, Catholic etc. to be saved?

MY ANSWER:

Yes, Christianity is a religion by Scriptural definition. I know there is a zippy saying like "Christianity is a relationship not a religion." What is religion? The practice of our faith. The Bible does describe

Covenant Confusion-Law and Grace

QUESTION RECEIVED:

What is the purpose of book of the covenant that was placed alongsider the Ark? I understood it was an expansion of the Decalogue and that the Decalogues is a summary of the book of the covenant? SDAdventists are telling me that the Ten Commandments WAS NOT the old covenant, and, therefore, I must keep the 7th day sabbath law today.

MY ANSWER:

The "Book of The Covenant" or "Book of Law" is the Ten Commandants and commands and rules they the Hebrews under Moses were to follow. The Decalogue is the Ten Commandments.

Family Behavior Problems?-You Need A King

QUESTION RECEIVED:

How does my family break the cycle of immoral behavior? Should I be concerned about their accepting Christ? If I have trouble or behave in a non-christian manner for a time, can I stop it from affecting them? Do we have to remain in a 'vicious'circle?

MY ANSWER:

Sin is the family of man's problem.
Even counseling, or human analysis of our problems, endorses the true biblical statement in behavior stated in the second commandment, stated below. Sin runs in a bad cycle especially in families. When we elevate anything before God it is

Tongues

Question Received:

When did speaking in tongues disappear after Christ's resurrection and when did it begin to reappear in modern times?

My Answer:

Tongues is one of the most controversial subjects in today's church.
Scholars do not agree if tongues are the ability to speak an unlearned language or
is the gift of tongues "glossolalia" an unknown language.
At the Feast of Pentecost God fearing Jews (and proselyte Jews or converted Jews) from many lands "heard" the gospel in their own language. My seminary professor taught that

Statues of Jesus

Question Received: Is having a statue of Jesus wrong?

My Answer:

During the time of the Reformation in the 1500's Protestants, in their reaction to the excesses they saw in the Catholic church, removed most if not all art from church in places of worship. The Reformers saw abuse in how pictures and statues were used withe prayers, veneration and worship practices. Statues and icons are used to day in the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox and some Protestant churches. A scripture sited in support of removing art in worship is the second commandment-

Exodus 20:4-6 [ESV] 4 "You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, 6but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.

Statues of Jesus, or any likeness of God or any creature are of course not to be worshiped. Moses warned the people about making objects of worship or even an object representing the Lord who they had not seen.
Deuteronomy 4:15-18 [ESV] "Therefore watch yourselves very carefully. Since you saw no form on the day that the LORD spoke to you at Horeb out of the midst of the fire, 16beware lest you act corruptly by making a carved image for yourselves, in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female, 17the likeness of any animal that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the air, 18the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the water under the earth."

Many Protestant churches have a picture of Jesus in them. Yes, there are some people who see this as wrong. Almost every church that has printed Sunday School material has a picture of Jesus in it. We of course should not worship or be superstitious towards or pray to a piece of art.
Is having a statue of Jesus wrong. No. Is worshiping the work of art wrong? Yes.
Is thinking there is power or superstition associated with the art wrong? Yes.
If you think their is something more to art than art you would be wrong and in sin.
We worship the Creator and not a creation.
One caution. A picture or statue can slant thinking in making assumptions that are nor true. Leonardo Di Vinci made a portrait of John that has led many people to view him as feminine, and led further art of John to do like wise. Art celebrating the Lord is not wrong. We do not worship it. However, I would be very discerning of any art work that declares to depict something unknown like the physical appearance of our Lord.

Bodies now in Heaven and Hell?

Question Received:
Do we have a spirit or spiritual or resurrection bodies in Heaven. How can a spirit be thirsty like the rich man in Luke 16? Does a person in hell have a spiritual body? When do we get these resurrection bodies?

My Answer:
To answer the question we have to look at Scripture. In this passage below the poor man was immediately carried to Abraham's side,or bosom. This is the place of God, or what we refer to as Heaven. The rich man died and went to Hades. The question often asked is this passage a parable or a true story? This passage is in a chapter that has parables but this account is not stated a s a parable. The rich man was in anguish and did thirst. To my knowledge their is no description of what type of spiritual body one has after ascending into Heaven or Hades. So we have a man in agony in Hades. We have a a man at Abraham's side being comforted. Feelings are felt with sensations both good and bad as the passage tells us. The full description of the spiritual believer both saved and unsaved is a mystery and can only be speculated on. It is a mystery and we do not need to build a doctrine with so few biblical facts known. But here we do see a spirit being thirsting. We get an account of people going to Heaven with no description of any change. We know that Jesus said he was going to prepare a place for us [John 14:2,3] -so their will be a new Heaven and Earth [Revelation 21:1]. Our Resurrection bodies will come after the return of Christ for believers first [Rev. 20:5-6] and then for the lost [Rev. 20:13-15].

To summarize your questions from scripture-
1) When a Christian dies do believers get a temporary spiritual body or are they only spirit?
We do have a spiritual body as described briefly in this passage.
2) Does a person in Hell have a body? Can it be thirsty or in agony?
A spiritual body until Revelation 20:13-15 occurs. Yes they are thirsty and in agony..
3) Will we all, saved and unsaved, one day get new resurrection bodies?
Our resurrection bodies will be given in the return of Christ in Revelation in the future as described in Revelation 20.
Luke 16:19-31 (English Standard Version)

The Rich Man and Lazarus
Luke:16:19-31
19"There was a rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. 20And at his gate was laid a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, 21who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover, even the dogs came and licked his sores. 22The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried,23and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. 24And he called out, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.' 25But Abraham said, 'Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. 26And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.' 27And he said, 'Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father’s house— 28for I have five brothers—so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.' 29But Abraham said, 'They have) Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.' 30And he said, 'No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.' 31He said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets,) neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.'"

A Troubling Verse-My,God, My God Why Have You Forsaken Me?

Question Received: Well, My question is why Specifically this language mentioned in Mathew 27:46 and translated rather than rest of the saying this language is not mentioned in theBible?

MY Answer: Jesus Christ's agony on the cross is understood in your stated Scripture. Matthew 27:46 [ESV] "And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice saying, "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani? that is, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" This language that is stated in this Bible verse is Aramaic. Jesus in His agony is crying out in the every day tongue of His people. Scholars say the first two words are Aramaic or Hebrew with the rest being Aramaic. This can be a troubling verse as it seems Jesus is totally defeated.

Jesus, the Word of God as stated in John 1, seems totally beat down physically, mentally and spiritually. The Word was actually quoting the Word he authored from Psalm 22:1 which says "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?" Psalm 22 goes further into the depths of agony that Jesus Christ suffered on the cross. The Psalm ends in a rousing and complete account of God's complete and total victory accomplished by His son Jesus Christ on the cross as He atoned for the sins of God's people.

Jesus Christ, The Word, took comfort from the prophetic Word He authored in the time of David, hundreds of years before Jesus Christ was incarnated in Bethlehem. Jesus Christ showed His deity and oneness with God. Jesus Christ the man looked to the Word He authored to grab at inspiration and strength at His most crucial time of life. This should inspire us to do the same. Jesus as the God man is declaring victory where defeat seemed sure. Some people at the cross thought He was calling on the prophet Eli. Jesus was in full unrestrained agony looking to the Word. He assured and declared that this horrible path He traveled led to ultimate victory of God for our gain over sin, death, hell and the grave.

Should a Pastor Officiate a Gay Wedding?

Question received:
I come seeking counsel. I have been ordained for about 2 years now, I have never performed a marriage yet, but I recently started thinking. What should I do if a Homosexual couple asks me to perform their marriage ceremony? Should I do it? What would be most pleasing to God?

My Answer:

Pastor the answer is simple, NO. In no way should you participate or give the church's and God's blessing on this sinful activity. The Word of God forbids homosexual activity. Many scriptures in both the Old Testament and New Testament prohibit and condemn all homosexual acts. Many liberal theologians have tried to contextualize and minimize the consistent judgement against any homosexual behavior. As I wrote earlier it is simple to say the gay lifestyle is wrong but it also very hard to confront people in their sins. It is hard to communicate that you are prohibiting an illicit union for there own good. It is not God's desire that anyone should live in there sin. The following scripture from 1st Corinthians 6:9-10 states that homosexuals, can not inherit the kingdom of God. Unrepentant thieves, drunkards, those who practice any sexual immorality also will not inherit the kingdom of God. You should not bless anyone in the church who is defiantly unrepentant and living in grievous sin. To do so in today's society will make a pastor cling to biblical morals even though they are not in step with the world.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 [NASB]

"9Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God"

What would be most pleasing to God you ask? To declare righteousness and also grace. God forgives sinners who do not deserve it. Your ultimate good to do is to get the sinners to repent and to believe the gospel.

This question is being answered in March 2011. States are offering various legislation that will will probably affirm gay unions in some states. The federal government seems content to sit on the sidelines and to let gay unions be the norm. Pastor, be a beacon. Lead the people away from sin not to it.
