Was Spurgeon’s Conversion Sparked by a Georgia Methodist Evangelist?

Was Spurgeon’s Conversion Sparked by a Georgia Methodist Evangelist?

In 1850 on January 6th the great Charles Haddon Spurgeon, the “Prince of Preachers”, was converted and received saving faith in Jesus Christ.
Previously the despondent fifteen year old knew he did not possess saving faith and dreaded his current destiny.

The young Spurgeon, from a family of ministers, was contemplating an eternity in hell.
In Lewis Drummond’s biography on Spurgeon he wrote that Spurgeon, under conviction of sin, said his heart was being plowed by “ten black horses” as he referred to the Ten

Doubting Your Salvation?

QUESTION RECEIVED:

God feels very far away. It wasn't like that a few months ago. It truly felt as if the Holy Spirit was changing me. Convicting me of things to change. So having the Holy Spirit's pressure on me I changed a lot of things. But,a habitual sin has come in and God has felt very distant since then. The Holy Spirit is not intervening like He used to. This has got me concerned that the Holy Spirit was never in me in the first place.  It's like I'm  a wandering apostate screaming for God to redeem me.  Yet, He seems silent. How can I repent and depend on faith instead of feelings? Maybe im not saved at all because I am always banking on my feelings. What can i do?

MY ANSWER:

First, it is wise to examine your faith.   Fear not as Christ answered many in the Bible in times of crisis.  You can receive an answer.   You and I did nothing to earn or deserve the grace of God.  We receive it from the merits of Jesus Christ.  Jesus Christ lived a perfect life.  He was God in the flesh.   He was the perfect sacrifice to pay

In A Crazy Church? - Use Your Feet

QUESTION RECEIVED:

We had a revival a few months ago, the preacher said to the others associate ministers that they are to preach Jesus and the pastor. It sounded crazy to me.......Is there any reference in the Bible to this? Another said... that blessings from God flows down through my bishop and then to the members. Again, I think that is crazy. Is there any reference in the Bible for this? Am I crazy, because I feel that I should start looking for another church to attend? This is begining to sound like a cult to me. Please help me? I do not want to be be in a church that is not teaching the Bible.

MY ANSWER:
By the words you are saying, if they are accurate - never attend that church again. Flee!!!

It is pretty simple on preaching.
Preach Jesus!

1 Corinthians 1:23
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
"23 but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness,"

Looks like you got yourself into some foolishness.

You need to flee when someone

Stingy Folks and The Gospel Work

QUESTION RECEIVED:

A man who's work is preaching the Gospel should make is living from the Gospel. I understand this. But how far should this be taken? Although writing various kinds of books are helpful, it seems every pastor and their mother is getting in on the act. Does this not take away from the ministering and shepherding of the flock? The first generation Christians who wrote the epistles took that time to meet a need of the church, not sell their writings for profit. In other words, let a pastor preach, and an author write. Also what about paid speeches or conferences? Quite honestly if I was told I could not come in to hear someone preach the Gospel unless I paid admission, I'd be pretty pi**ed. Should this not all be free of charge barring housing and food allowance if one has to travel? Why does everything pertaining to Christianity nowadays cost money?

MY ANSWER:

Why would we not want trained and learned men who have invested their lives in the gospel not to write books? Usually the books are about ministry and areas
