Hey Church-It's OK To Pay A Preacher A Living Wage-And Biblical
QUESTION RECEIVED:

Where in Bible does it talk about fair pay. ie should the church/school pay it's help and how much?

MY ANSWER:

The Apostle Paul wrote to the people of the church to be generous to the elders or ministers of the church. Take care of your preacher and his family!

1 Timothy 5:17-18
English Standard Version (ESV)
17Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching. 18For the Scripture says, "You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain," and, "The laborer deserves his wages."

Jesus Christ when he commissioned 72 missionaries made sure the people in service were cared for.

Luke 10 (ESV)

"3Go your way; behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves. 4 Carry no moneybag, no knapsack, no sandals, and greet no one on the road. 5Whatever house you enter, first say, 'Peace be to this house!' 6And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him. But if not, it will return to you. 7And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide,**** for the laborer deserves his wages.*** Do not go from house to house."

Jesus Christ and the Apostle Paul knew the hardships of the gospel life. Sharing the life saving gospel to people is rewarding yet the minister pays a price. All Christians are in ministry. Yet some are called to full time preaching and teaching. Support these people. Though many have tried, you can't and a preacher can't live off love. What do you pay a minister? The church should pay A wage that the minister can have housing, transportation, savings retirement, and raise a family, like the folks he ministers to have.
