Mimes in Church? Save The Mimes Now

QUESTION RECEIVED:

Is there anything wrong with mimes in the church? Where can I get information that will clarify the fact?

MY ANSWER:

Mimes in church? God save the mimes!
Stop the mime persecution now and evangelize them.
But, I think you are talking about mimes performing in a worship service.

Is there a biblical president for mimes in the Bible? No.
Would it creep people out to see mimes in church? Probably.
Many people are creeped out by mimes.

Here is better question. What are our people in church supposed to be doing in worship?
An outstanding pastor taught me that we are supposed to sing, say, hear, pray, preach and see the Bible in worship.
We sing the Bible to rightly praise God. We say the Bible as we affirm His Word with our mouth in reading scripture. We hear the Bible read, sung and preached. We pray the Bible for wisdom on how to approach and obey God. We preach the Bible for conversion and adoration. We see the Bible as we observe the Lord's Supper and Baptism.

The Old Testament has so many references to the reverence God requires. Our Lord declared when where and how he is to be worshiped by his people. Hophni and Phinehas were struck dead as they abused their priestly duties as 2nd Samuel 2:12-36 testifies. Uzzah died in 2 Samuel 6:1-15 as he touched the ark of God (The ark of the covenant). Uzzah had no right to touch the ark. God had distinctly ordered how His presence represented by the ark was to be handled . Yes! God does mightily care how He is approached and worshiped.

But now all men and women can approach our Lord in Spirit and Truth. In this day
God, through the work of Jesus Christ on the cross and the witness of the Holy Spirit, draws all people to fellowship with Him.

John 4:21-26 English Standard Version (ESV)
"21Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth." 25The woman said to him, "I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things." 26Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am he."

Mimes are performers. We do not have performers in worship. We have worshipers. Unfortunately the modern church often forgets this.
Can all talents be used for the glory of God? Yes.
Should all human talents be in worship? No.
Could mimes be used to glorify God in a Christian arts festival? Yes.
Let's not confuse people, shock or creep people out in worship.
In worship let's praise the Lord and marvel at him through His Word.
We then celebrate as we remember our salvation and others are saved. How are we saved? Trough the perfect life, death burial and Resurrection of Jesus Christ we are saved. Jesus Christ took our sins and took our punishment, the wrath of God, on the cross. This punishment was intended for us sinners who repeatedly break His law in life. We, trough totally undeserved grace, receive peace with God, forgiveness of sins and eternal life with the Father. That is what we celebrate and worship in His church. There is no better way to worship and celebrate His greatness than the way He described in the Bible.
