Progressive Christianity – What is it?

For church members in the pews Progressive Christianity is a new phrase.

This seems to be claimed by the wealthy downtown or yuppie style suburban church.

These church’s clergy and movement leaders are giving us "new" perspectives.

How this movement connects with historic Christian worship, biblical discipleship and evangelism has been weakly explained to the
people in the pews.

I think these leaders are accountable to speak on this. Even if they must do so in such a pedestrian way as referring to the Word of God rather than society.

Yes. I want to know if they are contending for the faith.

Jude 1:3 Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints.

I have many friends that choose this Progressive Christian title.

Personally this name Progressive Christianity makes my skin crawl.

A more arrogant and elitist self-given title I cannot imagine.

I know a few Progressives that would scorch anyone called a Born Again Christian.

They claimed we had one historic faith.

Ephesians 4:5

"one Lord, one faith, one baptism,"

As a lover of nicknames I know it is against the man-code to title yourself with a new moniker.

I have emailed seminary professors and talked to Progressives about a definition.

No answers.

Here is the definition I deducted from what they might possibly tell me and not tell me if this new movement ever decides to use concrete language.

Progressive Christian implied definition:  Our self-title alone implies we think – you don’t.  

We understand – you don’t.

But if you still don’t, we understand. 

Obviously you do not have the capacity to think. We do.

If you will fully trust our totally undeveloped beliefs, you pitiful regular Christian, then you might have a chance though you are deficient in all ways. That is why we are here.

You must follow our biblical, ethical, moral and intellectual superiority as you are deficient in these areas. You inferior’s must follow us despite we do not know where we are going.

Even though our “new ideas” have no form or are thought out with biblical theology, it is your only hope. Get with it.  And no, this does not make us GNOSTICS.  We are super-duper smart. Our seminaries really put that like 2,000 year old book to shame. We occasionally will pick a warm fuzzy story out of it and call it expository preaching.  But, that book is so old we often blur the 4,000 year old  of the old part with the new part. Who cares. That book is old!

 We are so advanced over mere Scripture that commoner Christians use.  In your inability to reason take heart.  You are fortunate. We will descend off our cloud of true knowledge and explain to you (and know this has nothing to do with your Soul Liberty or Priesthood of the believer, we have redefined that and you will be given the hidden secret perhaps if you ever evolve.)  It is only right with our mental and spiritual superiority to you that we will and should do the thinking for you.

You are welcome knuckle dragging Christians.
