Good News at Noon blesses new property | ||

To the sounds of “Amazing Grace” and “I’ll Fly Away,” Gainesville homeless shelter and ministry Good News at Noon blessed its new property Tuesday evening on Davis Street.
“I feel like a little kid with a candy, because to me it’s very exciting that God gave us more places to help more and more people,” said shelter director Thomas Ramirez.
Ramirez said the new property, located behind the kitchen on Davis Street, could possibly be turned into a playground area for children.
Following a selection of hymns, Pastor Fletcher Law began with Scripture from John 3:14.
“Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,” the passage reads.
Gene Beckstein, the shelter’s founder known as Mr. B,, explained how the power of prayer has affected his own life. When an infection threatened the lower leg of the 92-year-old, people sought help from a higher power for good health.
“Six weeks later, he got healed,” Ramirez said.
The story, Beckstein said, brings a tear to his eye.
“As surely as he was healed, God will also do this work,” Bill Coates, senior pastor of the First Baptist Church in Gainesville, said of the consecrated property.
Coates led the dozen or so in attendance in prayer, asking that the property help those in need.
“We come to consecrate this land, and we come to consecrate ourselves,” Coates said in his prayer.
Ramirez said he views this as a new opportunity to continue helping people through Christianity.
“God has so many miracles performed here,” said attendee Willie Alexander.
