Pay That Preacher

QUESTION RECEIVED:

What does the Bible say about some pastors taking hugh salaries from the church? Should members limit what they give and maybe give some to a needy cause?

MY ANSWER:

What does the Bible say about pastors getting huge salaries? Nothing.

If you think some one is greedy and profiteering from the gospel you are blessed to be, in America anyway, able to completely ignore any financial support or participation with any church or ministry you do not want to support with your gifts. My policy-no financial disclosure, no financial support.

There is much Biblical support to financially take care of a pastor-GENEROUSLY.

1 Timothy 5:17-18 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
"17 Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine. 18 For the Scripture says, "You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain," and, "The laborer is worthy of his wages."

Yes, at times the Apostle Paul ministered with out pay from those he ministered to. Those folks were also new converts. Christians financially support their preacher and ministries. Yet Paul trough the direction of the Holy Spirit writes this.

1 Corinthians 9:13-14 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
"13 Do you not know that those who perform sacred services eat the food of the temple, and those who attend regularly to the altar have their share from the altar? 14 So also the Lord directed those who proclaim the gospel to get their living from the gospel."

So,are you concerned about a jet owning high dollar con man portraying himself as a man of God? I hear about these guys and have yet to meet one.

Or, Do you have a stingy heart and you can not stand for your pastor to live a quality of life that would support a wife and raise kids? Your pastor needs a home, transportation, education, vacations, health insurance, and to educate his kids.

Support the man of God wisely. The Lord sent him to take care of you.
