QUESTION RECEIVED: Why can't Satan realize he is wrong, and beg God for mercy?
MY ANSWER:
"Sympathy For The Devil" is the the name of a 1968 Rolling Stones song.
Your question obviously brings that to mind.
Why should Satan have sympathy, mercy or grace?
Humans are not owed grace. Satan who once served God has no chance of grace. This is by the just decree of Jesus Christ. Grace is God's unmerited favor poured out to those who repent and believe the gospel by nothing else but the undeserved and unearned love of God. There is nothing like grace. And no the 'father of all lies" deserves none.
Satan is a angel created to serve God. He rebelled against God and is the author of sin. He is our enemy and the enemy of Christ.
Why can't Satan realize he is wrong? He is pure evil and sin. When we look back in life all sin is stupid. Lies are the breadcrumb trail to sin. He is also the "accuser of the brethren" which is Christians. His arrogance got him in his place of doom.
Satan known as the serpent led Eve and Adam and the human race into sin by his lies.
Genesis 3:1-5 (ESV)
He said to the woman, "Did God actually say, 'You shall not eat of any tree in the garden'?" 2And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, 3but God said, 'You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.'" 4 But the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die. 5For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."
The LORD declared the permanent curse on the evil being in Genesis 3:14-15
14"The LORD God said to the serpent,
"Because you have done this
cursed are you above all livestock
and above all beasts of the field;
on your belly you shall go,
and dust you shall eat
all the days of your life.
15I will put enmity between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and her offspring;
he shall bruise your head,
and you shall bruise his heel."
In Isaiah 14:12-17 (ESV) the fall of the angel created to serve God is described.
12"How you are fallen from heaven,
O Day Star, son of Dawn!
How you are cut down to the ground,
you who laid the nations low! ..."
Here the Lord tells of what Satan once was.
Ezekiel 28:11-19(ESV)
11"Moreover, the word of the LORD came to me: 12 "Son of man, raise a lamentation over the king of Tyre, and say to him, Thus says the Lord GOD:
"You were the signet of perfection,
full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
13You were in Eden, the garden of God; .....
The deserved hate for the devil is real as these words of Christ attest.
Matthew 25:41 (ESV)
41"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels."
In Matthew 4:1-11 the devil tries to thwart the salvation of man with his temptations to make Christ sin in the desert.
Revelation 12:1-17 tells of how Satan warred against Heaven and Israel to stop Christ's work of grace salvation for his people.
Satan surely knows his fate as it is recorded in Revelation 20:10(ESV)
"10and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever."
Satan came to do evil. No he does not seek followers. He will destroy all he can. That is his nature.
Jesus Christ told of the devil and his demise. Satan or the devil is not a misunderstood being.
Jesus Christ, who is eternal and always existed, witnessed the deserved fall of Satan.
Luke 10:18(ESV)
"18And he said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven."
Jesus Christ describes the character of the devil below when talking to those who were against the work of Christ on Earth.
John 8:44(ESV)
"44 You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies."
The devil is judged by the One he tried to destroy.
Revelation 19:11 (ESV)
"11Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war."
No sympathy for the devil. Don't go "Running With the Devil" as Van Halen recorded in 1978.
The doomed Satan kills and destroys, even those stupid enough to be self professed Satan worshipers.
What did Satan try to stop? Our salvation.
Jesus Christ, by His perfect life He fulfilled the law. He became the perfect substitute to pay for our sins on the cross. He took the wrath of God on the cross to pay for the sin of those who repent of their sins and believe Jesus Christ is Lord. Christians are then declared righteous before God by the record of Jesus Christ as His righteousness is bestowed on us. We have eternal life, forgiveness of sins and peace with God when we believe.
Exam your relationship with Christ today!!!
