QUESTION RECEIVED:
What is the meaning behind Matthew, chapter
12, verses 43- 45?
MY ANSWER:
This is definitely a passage that makes you take notice for its
unparalleled statement of unclean and wicked spirits by Jesus Christ.
Matthew 12:43-45 New King James Version (NKJV)
“43 “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes
through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. 44 Then he says, ‘I will
return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty,
swept, and put in order. 45 Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits
more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of
that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked
generation.”
These verses(43-45) are
in isolation and stand alone and is not connected to the following or preceding
verses.
After rereading this text and reading several respected
teachers and commentaries here goes-
This is about Israel and Israel trying to live righteously
without the Spirit of God.
When this is done all a man or nation has is a stiff
rigidity that is lifeless.
Evil spirits will fill the void that the Holy Spirit should
be filling.
When we have not the Holy Spirit sin multiplies in our heart.
The man is Israel.
This would also apply to men who try to be right with god by
works.
Jesus Christ died for our sins as He paid our price for
breaking God’s law.
Christ received the
wrath of God intended for those who break His law and repent of our sins and turn to Him.
We receive when we repent of our sins and
turn to Christ -
1. Salvation.
2. Peace with God
3. Citizenship in Heaven.
4. We are sealed with
the Holy Spirit of God.
We need to receive and do receive, the Holy Spirit after we sinners turn to God
for salvation to retain true and not false righteousness imputed to us from the Father.
