QUESTION RECEIVED:
Hebrews 6:4-6. I have fallen into a sinful way and have lost
desire to follow the Lord. Am I doomed
according to Hebrews 6:4-5?
Hebrews
6:4-6.
4 For it is impossible, in the case of
those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and
have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the goodness of the word of
God and the powers of the age to come, 6 and then have fallen away, to restore
them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to
their own harm and holding him up to contempt.
MY ANSWER:
We
are saved by grace but we are not free to sin with no penalty. We are called to holiness.
Brother have you “put him (Christ) to
an open shame (vs 8. KJV)” or” crucifying once again the Son of God to their
own harm and holding him up to contempt (vs. 8 ESV)”? You, if you are saved, like all Christians
have fallen into sin since salvation.
By your words you are not hating and
rejecting the salvation and works of Jesus Christ. If you are saved the Holy Spirit is grieving
you. As bad as you feel this is a good
thing. You are under grace when it comes
to being saved and being viewed by God as righteous. You still are living under God’s moral law
(the 10 commandments).
Romans 3:21-24 (ESV)
“21 But now the righteousness of God has
been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear
witness to it— 22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for
all who believe. For there is no distinction: 23 for all have sinned and fall short
of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the
redemption that is in Christ Jesus,”
Are you saved?
Jesus said in Mark 1:15
“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of
God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
If you are not saved the Holy Spirit
is calling you and convicting you. Just
because you tasted the goodness of the Lord does not mean you are saved.
Romans
10:9–10 (ESV)
9 because, if you confess with your mouth
that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,
you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and
with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
If you are saved and have fallen
into sin you are still to follow God’s moral
law (The 10 Commandments) as it has dominion over our lives. We can be saved and miserable. Confess your
sins and
1
John 1:9 (ESV)
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful
and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Pursue holiness if you are
saved. The Holy Spirit is convicting
you.
1
Peter 1:15-16 (ESV)
15 but as he who called you is holy, you
also be holy in all your conduct, 16 since it is written, “You shall be holy,
for I am holy.”
If you are saved you cannot deny the
work of Christ as Hebrews 6:4-6 obey the Holy Spirit and pursue holiness.
If you are not saved confess Jesus
Christ as Lord.
