2010 Christmas Prayer letter for Redeemer Baptist

Christmas Prayer Letter
Redeemer Baptist Church 201
PO Box 776, Gainesville GA 30503

Greetings in the Advent season of our Lord and Redeemer!

Praise report.
People have raised over $2,200 for three year old Dustin Charlton who suffers from Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH).
The community really supported the family at our Dec. 7th Collegiate Christmas Party.
Many others mailed gifts in.
Dustin has had chemo and will go back to Houston, Texas soon for further treatment plans.
Mother, Heather Charlton is expecting but having difficulty in her pregnancy-she has been in the hospital this week.
Little sister, age two, Taylor-Grace is well in all this activity.
Dustin Charlton [Dad] is working for the Hall County Sheriff's dept.
They still need help in prayers and finance.

Another praise report.
Michelle, our friend Andrea Gilbert's daughter, is recovering in her battle from cancer. Michelle was at our Christmas party with her three kids and praising the Lord for her great improvement.

Dennis Pitts of Flowery is receiving marrow treatment this Christmas week at Emory.
This is new news to many. Pray for ans support the Pitts family.

Kayla, a Chestatee High school student, and daughter of Joan Bancroft has continued to have serious medical problems and treatments. We pray for peace and comfort for sweet Kayla.

Lord,
We praise you in this season in Advent as you are our Creator,Provider, Redeemer, and Savior.
You came as a baby once. You will return in the clouds as all will know you then as King OF Kings and Lord of Lords.
Thanks you for your grace. Hear our prayer of gratitude. Please answer our pleas for healing that your Son will be glorified
through it before your return!

In the saving name of your Son Jesus Christ -Amen!

Thank you prayer partners.

In Christ Alone!

10 Greatest Pro QB's -By their play not your hype

Heard Peter King and Colin Cowherd give opinions on who they think are the greatest pro quarterbacks. These guys needed help in my opinion. After being amazed by Tebow's great outing Sunday in his 12-19-10 start against the Raiders (3rd QB in history, not rookie QB, to pass for a 40 yard TD and run for a fifty yard TD), I decided to list the 10 best pro QB's ever. Here is my definitive list of the 10 greatest pro quarterbacks in NFL history.
Don't let facts hurt your feelings.
1) Otto Graham- Cleveland Browns. 1946-1955. The wins, 10 seasons 10, championship games, 7 titles. Innovator of modern football with head coach Paul Brown. He is who you wish your number one favorite QB was. Coach Paul Brown and Graham are who Belichick and Brady think they are.
2)Joe Montana-he made the Niners. Timing -leadership-poise at the highest level.
A sibling of mine declared in 1979 that he would never play pro football.
3)Tom Brady-Awesome in play, comebacks, hair and people hate him because he is awesome at everything.
4) Terry Bradshaw- Awesome tough athlete. National high school javelin record holder. 4 rings, lots of haters.
5) Fran Tarkington- "The Scrambler" got three teams to the Super Bowl with talent like Ed Marinaro on the Vikings. He even got the late 1ate 1960's NY Giants into contention.
6) Bart Starr- Never made big mistakes. Tough. Way underrated.
7) Peyton Manning- Colts-present day Clumsy looking. Should have gone to Ole Miss. I pick how it is. He is great. Looks up to no one but Brady.
8) Bob Griese- He does not choke. Dull but winning in his consistency.
9)Roger Staubach- Most legitimate documented comebacks in NFL history. Hated them. he beat out Gainesville's Billy Lothridge for the Heisman. But he was awesome.
10) Kenny Stabler- He won the big games because he played in them. For one game he is my all timer.
Tie*** Kurt Warner- Had many haters. Why? Stats , wins leadership. Off the charts on his official QB rating.

Why did my guy not make it?
John Elway-Selfish player. They won on terrell davis running at the end of his career.
Johnny Unitas- Had 6 great years. Unfortunately he played 17. I know he had a flat top and black high tops-so?
Joe Namath-4 Good years and a great Super Bowl. Played thirteen years.
Dan Fouts- All yardage and no hardware.
Steve Young- A few great years on a dynasty at the end.
Troy Aikman- Serviceable on great teams

Future New Breeds of the game
Mike Vick if he can stay out of trouble.
Vince Young if his head gets on right.
Tebow. Does it all right and people are tripping over themseves to find flaws.

Answer on comments.

Learning Thanksgiving from General Grant?

Working in public schools, Chestatee High and Sardis Elementary this fall, students I find are still eager to get out for the Thanksgiving holiday. We received a full Thanksgiving week off this year. Two of our days were teacher furlough days, a sign of the economic times. This is a secular holiday established by religious people-Americans.
What has infected our country where we do not look to Providence as who blesses us, gives provision and strength. Many people do not look to the Lord for our blessings. A new aged influenced, embarrassed group of pseud-intellectuals seem embarrassed to acknowledge our country's dependence on the Father. We look to self and government.

"A leader is best when people barely know he exists, when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves."
A popular quote of supporting being selfish by Lao Tzu

We are doers we are told. People are no longer bond servants to the Lord, as Peter and Paul described themselves in their Apostleship. Notice all the leadership seminars sponsored by Christian ministries? How about some servanthood seminars?
Oh, we are all now so called "Christ followers" as possibility thinkers like taught at The Crystal Cathedral [now bankrupt]. We like to declare in OUR Independence. We can take or leave it. We are just following for now. No submission to Scripture or sitting under a pastor's authority. The word Christian, as the Apostolic fathers described themselves, is sooooo dated. We must redefine 2,000 years of tradition and get with it.
This Thanksgiving we still have too much of that "I did it myself" attitude.

Romans 5:6-8 disabuses Christians of these notions.
"6 For while we were still helpless, at the appointed moment, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For rarely will someone die for a just person—though for a good person perhaps someone might even dare to die. 8 But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us!"

Here is a surprise to you. Let's look to that old "blue belly" Ulysses S. Grant.
He was a Yankee General, President victor and national hero. He looked to the Almighty and declares the time as His. Here is a text from President Grant's 1871 Thanksgiving proclamation.

"I therefore recommend that on Thursday, the 30th day of November next, the people meet in their respective places of worship, and there make the usual acknowledgments to Almighty God for the blessings he has conferred upon them; for their merciful exemption from evil, and invoke His protection and kindness for their less fortunate brethren whom, in His wisdom he has deemed it best to chastise.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed. Done at the city of Washington this twenty-eighth day of October, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and seventy one, and of the Independence of the Untied States of America the ninety-sixth."

By the President,

Ulysses S. Grant.

Thank you Lord for salvation than by no other way,
In Christ Alone!

Football Pick'em Rivalry Week 13 "Gird Up And Mean IT!"

What have we learned this week?
Steve Lemke has won 3 weeks of Pick'em.
Cam Newton is undefeated and for now untouchable.
Should they, Auburn, change their name from Tigers to Cheatahs?
Got that joke out of mothballs from the Danny Ford Clemson Tiger era.
It's rivalry week.
Some of the big ones are on Friday and not on the menu.
This will end the regular season.
We will gird up for the bowl season special though.
Lets find out-can Auburn maintain it's wins and innocence?
Will PJ or CMR breath some fire into a series with some quotes?
Can Ole Miss rise up?
Let's pick hard fair and square.
Pray for the churches to preach the gospel.
Come to our Christmas Party at the Collegiate Grill where the Pick'em awards will be given. We of course will mail out to our out of town players.
Our party will raise money for a young 3 year old who has Langherns cell hysticytosis [a blood cancer]. Check my FaceBook for an invitation or address if you would like to send a love offering.

Let's have fun and give Thanks even for something fun and frivolous like football.

In Christ Alone!

9] Notre Dame at USC- My pick USC
10] Oklahoma at Oklahoma State- My Pick Oklahoma State, one of the few hot rivalries on Saturday. Left Auburn at Bama of as they play on Friday.
11] Georgia Tech at Georgia- My Pick Georgia, have been to about 40 of 42 of these since 1968. This might be one of the weakest build ups ever for both teams. 2 years ago PJ is the toast of ATL. 4 Years ago Richt was one of the hottest coaches in the USA. Never thought this would be a "wait till next year" game for both sides.
Tiebreakers
#1 Tech passes for 100 yards against Georgia-yes or no- My pick yes
#2 Georgia rushes for 200 yards Saturday- yes or no, My Pick YES
#3 Total points of the Tech vs. Georgia game- My Pick 58 points

Football Pick'em week 12-gird up your loins like a man and play!

Worn our. Went to Rocky Top and saw the Rebs not play. What did week 11 teach us. If you dance with the devil you lose.[Ole Miss and Masoli] If you dance with the devil you win-for now.[Auburn and Newton]. I am recovering from that Knoxville trip like Aaron Murray is from the multiple safe and legal hits from the fine scholar athletes that the Tigers and their fine and ethical athletic department produce. So much for editorial. Let's get it on.
Play hard fair and square like Christ modeled.
Pray for our churches to preach the gospel.

Steve Lemke Interview

Dr. Steve Lemke Interview
[Dr. Lemke is the provost of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, professor and author-and regular participant and past weekly winner in Football Pick'em. We will start interviewing folks concerning faith and we like to talk a little football also.]

1] When did you come to saving faith?
What prompted you into Christian ministry, in the church and in academia?

SWL: "I came to Christ at the age of 10. I had literally attended church all of my life, because church was and is at the center of my family's life. I believe my upbringing had a strong impact on my calling. My father being a college professor and my mother being a church secretary, I felt equally at home in the pastor’s study and the professor’s office. Many people experience the church and academia as being opposites or antithetical, but for me they were together. My parents served as leaders in the college department of the college town church we attended, and many of my Sunday School teachers were university professors. So I experienced from an early age how academics and the Christian faith can be held together consistently. I also experienced a freedom to ask hard questions, and witnessing on the college campus. So my interest in Apologetics was a good fit with my upbringing.
I felt called into ministry my senior year in college. God moved through several experiences (summer missions, a unique experience at Glorieta) to overcome some of my sense of unworthiness. I never would have dreamed of being “worthy” enough or holy enough to be a pastor, but I did feel a bit more comfortable ministering to youth and college students. My call experience was extremely clear and emotional for me. It took place at a Missions Conference at Southwestern Seminary (though it was not a call to missions). I had majored in History and minored in Journalism (which God has used in some remarkable ways). At that point, a career in journalism had been offered to me, but I felt clear leadership toward ministry and went to seminary.
My early direction and experience was in youth and college ministry. I served on some great church staffs, from small town churches to Second Baptist Houston. But the time came that I felt led toward the pastorate (I call this phenomenon “youth minister disease”), and pastored my first church. By this time I had an interest in teaching, though I thought the odds I would ever have a position were minimal. However, an opportunity did arise to teach in a Baptist college, and then felt led to a church plant that had split (not your usual good career move). The Lord blessed there, and then my dream job at SWBTS opened up. I had to make the hard choice of declining because it was a crucial time in the church plant moving toward constituting as a church. However, SWBTS came back and offered me the position again later, and I gladly accepted. Seven years later, I had the invitation to come to NOBTS, and I’ve been here 13 years."

2] What captured your interest in football?

SWL: "I was been privileged to grow up around sports, particularly football. Bert Jones, former LSU quarterback and NFL MVP for the Baltimore Colts, lived down the street from me (his father was a pro player for the Cleveland Browns). I got to watch him (and play sandlot ball with him) throughout high school, along with his cousin Andy Hamilton (LSU and the Kansas City Chiefs), Alan Storey (LSU), Jackson (Tulane), and Mean Fred Dean (Louisiana Tech and Hall of Fame with the San Francisco 49ers). And then I had the privilege of watching Terry Bradshaw at Louisiana Tech (future number 1 NFL draft pick and Hall of Fame), and several other future NFL players who were on those teams (Ken Liberto of the Steelers, Joe Raymond Peace and Mike Barber of the Oilers, Larry Brewer of the Falcons, Tommy Spinks of the Vikings, Charles McDaniel and Roland Harper of the Bears, Fred Dean of the Chargers and 49ers, Roger Carr of the Colts, and Pat Tilley of the Cardinals). And the next Tech teams competed and won the division 2 national championships a couple of years. I was in journalism in those days, and got to travel with and get to know many of the players. Huey Kirby, a tight end, preached a revival with me while I was in college. Tech basketball had stars like the Mailman, Karl Malone, and the girl's team won a number of national championships. Many of these guys still live in the Ruston area -- Bert Jones, Fred Dean, and Karl Malone (my son was in class with his daughter the Katrina year). Then I lived in the DFW area during the Dallas Cowboys won most of their Super Bowls. And then I move to New Orleans, and unbelievably, even they win the Super Bowl! So I've just been lucky to be around some great champions."

"Now my focus is on my son, Austin, who is in his senior year in high school. He's the team captain of the basketball team (and the cross country team), and the star of the team (there are some people besides his doting father might agree with that)."

Favorite college team?
SWL: "Louisiana Tech, plus I’m a fan of most of the Texas schools."
Favorite pro team?
SWL: "Dallas Cowboys, along with the New Orleans Saints and the Houston Texans."
High school football position?
SWL: "I played in the band – the football team was too good!"
BCS view?
SWL: "I despise the BCS, because it is so prejudiced in favor of the old traditional big schools. I would very much like to see a true playoff."

National Champion pick?
SWL: "It has gotten very confusing for me, but I’ll stick with my pre-season pick Alabama."

Super Bowl match up?
SWL: "In a dark world, all men are blind. So it is with NFL parity. None are really better than others. A cluster of AFC teams the Colts, Steelers, Packers, Patriots, and Jets could probably beat up on any of the NFC teams, but they may wear each other out. I have no idea!"

Why do so many Baptist ministers like football?
SWL: "Probably because so many of us grew up in the South. Most of us aren’t great hockey fans. And, identification with our state school is a matter of great pride. Plus, some of us are very competitive! (J)"

3] In Georgia we have North Georgia and South Georgia New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary satellite campuses. Many ministers in Georgia are alums of NOBTS. What is new in the the life and ministry of NOBTS?

SWL: "NOBTS is doing amazingly well. Obviously, over our last five years we have been rebuilding from the $64 million in damages we suffered when the levees failed a day after hurricane Katrina. The positive thing is that Southern Baptists came to our aid in such a gracious way, and now most of our housing is either newly built or newly remodeled. Our greatest challenge is continuing build new housing to provide for all the students God is sending our way. Before Katrina, NOBTS surprised everyone and became the largest seminary in the SBC. We had about 3,880 students that year; we had about 3,740 last year, so we're almost entirely back in enrollment. That makes us among the five largest seminaries in the world. Our students have moved more to the extension center, hybrid, and internet course delivery systems, so they serve not only all over the Southeast but literally all over the world."

"I'm delighted with the quality of our faculty in two ways. First, the overwhelming majority of them have significant ministry experience. We have 8 former IMB missionaries on our faculty (not just in Missions), as well as a number of others who have been involved in church planting (including me). But we also have a faculty of incredible academic achievement. Our faculty has been rated in the top 20 research institutions by Academic Analytics, a private company that evaluates faculty scholarly productivity, for most of the last few years, putting us among well-funded Ivy League type institutions like Princeton Theological Seminary. Our faculty members have produced 23 books over the last 3 years, not to mention dozens of articles and musical compositions. Our faculty is producing incredible research in places such as the Center for New Testament Textual Studies, which has become one of the premier settings worldwide for both study and research on the text of the New Testament. The Center has one of the largest collections of New Testament manuscripts in digital, facsimile, and microfilm formats in North America, and contributes the largest number of collations to the International Greek New Testament project of anyone in North America. The CNTTS Critical Apparatus of the Greek New Testament is the world's first and most extensive searchable electronic database available of the Greek manuscripts of the entire New Testament. We also have the Institute for Christian Apologetics (with their Defend the Faith conferences), the Baptist Center for Theology and Ministry (with their resources for Baptist theology), the Youth Minisry Institute, the Greer-Heard Point-Counterpoint Forum (with world class speakers from both sides of an issue), the Center for Archaeological Research (with their groundbreaking dig in Tel Gezer, Israel), and the Leavell Center for Evangelism and Church Health."

4] Your new book with David Allen "The Return of Christ" is coming out when? How is it constructed as far a content?

SWL: "This week, I am (hopefully) finishing editing our new book on Eschatology entitled The Return of Christ: A Premillennial Perspective. My co-editor is David Allen, Dean of the School of Theology at Southwestern Seminary, who was also my co-editor in our book Whosoever Will, which has been very well received (it came out in April, and it's in its fourth printing). Just as Whosoever Will was based on the John 3:16 Conference sponsored by Jerry Vines Ministries (and co-sponsored by NOBTS, SEBTS, SWBTS, MWBTS, Liberty, Luther Rice, and Truett-McConnell), The Return of Christ is built off of the Acts 1:11 Conference held at North Metro FBC in Lawrenceville, GA."
"With a preface by Pastor Frank Cox and sermons by nationally known preachers Jerry Vines and Junior Hill, the first section of the book includes written versions of all the presentations made at the conference, each of which deal with a major aspect of Eschatology in the book of Revelation: Danny Akin (SEBTS), Paige Patterson (SWBTS), Ergun Caner (Liberty), Richard Land (ERLC), and David Allen (SWBTS). Also as we did in Whosoever Will, we also added five articles supplementing the presentations made at the conference. These contributors include Stan Norman (Oklahoma Baptist University), Craig Blaising (SWBTS), Lamar Cooper (Criswell College), Steven Cox (MABTS), and Mike Vlach (the Master's Seminary). Although these contributors from eight different institutions differ on a few details, they all share a pre-tribulational, premillnnial perspective. Broadman and Holman should have it out next year."

Fletcher,
Thanks for the opportunity to participate.

Football Pick'em Week 9 -"Gird Up Your Loins-Job 38:3 NASB-Jacksonville &Reformation Day Edition

What did we learn going into Week 9-Cam Newton should be illegal - Dawgs got to get turnovers to win - the team formerly known as the "Rebs" need to gird up. Ray Rhodes felt 95 reasons why he would win the Pre-Reformation day week 8 going 13-17. John Pless was knocking on the door at 12-17, I'm hanging in going 11-7, Steve Lemke was 10-17, Lewis and Pete were 9-17, Graham and Andrew were 7-10.
Can't wait till the Laptop Bowl. Masoli of Ole Miss [formerly from Oregon but dismissed because of a laptop "borrowing"] vs. Cam Newton of Auburn who is no longer at Florida for the same reason. Big game in Oxford and in Jacksonville. To get in the mood I will monitor all scores on my laptop while honoring the Jacksonville tradition of food not cocktails. Big Shrimp ring from Publix will be devoured as I enjoy football in My John Knox Reformation Day costume and at night preach against heresies of the Queen as the youngsters come over for a Trick or Treat.
Play Hard, fair and square. Pray for our churches to preach the gospel.

Whats In A Name?

Names are important. We place great value on them. It took three days to name my son. The hospital people would not let us check out a name for a baby. Sports teams have a name. We picked a good name in Graham. We named him from inspiration printed on a book on our coffee table - Peace With God by Billy Graham. My Alma Mater Ole Miss seems to have a schizophrenic idea about staying with Rebels as their mascot. They also have chosen a Black Bear as their "sideline mascot". Two names? But their are a lot of names more important than sports team names and even our own given names.

Names are important and people associate themselves with names and names to people. Acts 11:26 says "and the disciples were first called Christians at Antioch." That is awesome that in first century Christianity that the followers of Christ knew who they were and were not confused. They were not some new age "Christ followers." They were not trying out a new fad, and then on to the next one. They did not get to say cool things like "I'm spiritual but not religious." Or, "I like Jesus I just hate his church or followers." Their is even a quote by Gandhi that says something like this, though it was reported in Christianity Today that Gandhi never anything so arrogant as that. Some folks just hate the name Christian.
Even some non Christians understand what we do not-Christ Jesus suffered, bled and died and received the wrath of God in substitution for His church. That is not trivial. Or, do the Christians today really believe what Jesus thought about His bride. And why are we so quick to turn from it, avoid worship for the slightest social conflict, neglect personal evangelism.

We, Christians who are the body and bride of Christ Jesus have received a wonderful
name that associates us with the "Anointed One". Revelation 2:17 that to him who overcomes Christ will give us a new name written on a white stone. Christ knows him that intimately. Have you received that write to receive your group or team name will you get a new name in Heaven?
Pray for our churches to preach the gospel.

Galatians 3:13 -Is it True?

"Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us--for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE" [Galatians 3:13 NASB] - What love. What truth -or is it? Do we have a sense of salvation will let us "Flee the wrath to come?". The very wrath of God that John The Baptist warned us about? Wrath sent by The Almighty on sinners. Do we believe in sin. Often we talk about sin in a Greek philosophical sense in that we "missed the mark". Do we understand we did not miss the mark but that we knocked the target down and scoffed at it.
1 John 3:4
4 Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.
Do we believe there is a hell prepared for transgressors of the law?

Matthew 25:41 (New American Standard Bible)

41"Then He will also say to those on His left, "Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels;"

Do we believe that God is Holy,Jealous and a Consuming Fire? Do we believe that most of all God is Love? This is how God describes Himself in Scripture.
Do we believe that God made a way for us to be reconciled to Himself through the life death burial and resurrection of His only Son?

Paul addresses -not the lost but the REDEEMED of the Church of Galatia.
He bluntly says "You foolish Galatians who has bewitched you?" Was there another better gospel? NO!!!

This gospel of love cost Him everything when I was worth nothing.
Do you believe this gospel?
People of the Church of Gainesville and everyone else in the world-this is your response-worship-grow and disciple-and participate in the sharing of the glorious gospel-our one and only but sure way for the world to be made right with God.

Guess what we will do in church Sunday? We will worship the living God-build up believers- and prepare to go and tell.
See you at church! What a privilege to do so.

In Christ Alone!

Why Atheist Hate Christianity and The Church-Certainty

Why do atheist along with agnostics and universalist hate Christianity and the church?
Why should we care if atheist hate Christianity and the church?
Do we care enough to share the gospel so the lost can be saved or do we water down and compromise Christianity and the church?
The watering down has gotten some on board who did not know there was an on board as far as certainty in Christ or his holiness.
Oops---We lost another celebrity endorser of Christianity- Ann Rice. She has written some vampire novels that sold some books. This got her on the celebrity Christian circus.
The meanie Christians pretty much state-except for the neo-Christians (liberals)-
they are against the practices the Bible is against.
The vampire author could not have any of that.
You mean it's not the cafeteria plan and we pick and choose what we want?
The bible condemns homosexuality, sex outside of marriage, murder, hate and acknowledgement of no other gods and that Jesus Christ is who He said he is-GOD IN THE FLESH!
The Bible no where tells you to be a Republican it tells you to die to self and pick up your cross and follow Him.
Ann Rice says she believes in Christ. I am sure he is thrilled she has thrown Him a bone.
But she is disdainful and sarcastic about the bride He died for -His church.
O well celebrity comes and go.
Why do atheist hate the church?
Why will agnostics, atheists and universalists and other world religions hate the church and Christianity?
Certainty. If their is certainty then responsibility would follow.
If you profess Christ as Lord in society you will have heard "Who are you to say only Christians go to heaven--God send people to hell-that sin is sin-Christ is the only path to God."
The scriptures clearly declare belief and authority of Christ.
Of course if you are on the cafeteria plan you can leave the authority of scripture off your plate.
But their is a problem.
In John 8:58 Jesus clearly declares Himself THE GREAT I AM.
He is certain.
Believers a.k.a. Christians are sure.
This infuriates those who continue to break the first commandment and have other gods starting with the one in the mirror. Liberals are pro choice in following a King and deny Lordship to Jesus Christ. Christianity and faith in Jesus Christ as Lord does not fit into what atheist and agnostics and universalist want-a cafeteria plan.
Don't be hating on what Jesus Christ died for to redeem.
He shed His blood for and is perfecting His church-slower than you probably want but surer to holiness and perfection than those oposed to His bride.

In Christ Alone!

Should We Pray For The Unsaved

My Christian friends are evangelical, some Calvinist, Dispensation, or Wesleyan.
In my preaching through the gospel of John I am in chapter 8 verse 12 where Jesus Christ again declares himself by saying "I am the light of the world;".
So we need to get from the darkness to the light.
John chapter 1 says Jesus is "the Light of men."
John 1:5 says "The Light shines in darkness, and the night (lost people) did not comprehend it."
In John Chapter 3:3 Jesus tells (lost) Nicodemus "Truly,Truly I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God."
In John 4:10 Jesus tells the (lost) Samaritan women that she should have asked him for "Living Water" so she would never thirst again.
Christians can not make darkness accept night.
We can not cause spiritual birth.
We can not be or give Living Water that satisfies so we never thirst again.
We can not be foolish and pray for predestination in an unbiblical way.
We can not get them to say a prayer that leads to a false conversion.
We give witness to the gospel.
The perfect life of Jesus whose has sins of the elect imputed on Him.
His righteousness is imputed on us.
So through Jesus Christ and His life death, burial and resurrection-and sure fact He will return saves us.
I have studied -gone to school-got the T-shirt -gone to the pastor conferences-and can not fully explain the systematic theology that we strain through who study theology on how we get saved. the grand conclusion though is it is all on Jesus as he initiated and brought the work to completion.
In John 7:37 Jesus Christ says, " All that the Father gives Me will come to me, and the one who comes to me I certainly will not cast out."
Do not hold back- PRAY &WITNESS!!!

In Christ Alone!

Election Results- On Earth and Eternally

As we vote in the primaries in Georgia on Tuesday 7/20/10 candidates will make grand promises.
People want to vote for the redeeming candidate. Most candidates really just put forth views that will get their constituents in their district to get to vote for them to get elected.
In our elections-impersonal phone calls are made by machine to induce sincerity by the candidate. [I have had 20 plus robo calls since Sunday]
In Christ's Election Christ send His very Spirit to draw us we can be elect.
In our elections candidates tell you what they may do. They usually plead for another term to keep their promises to get elected.
In Christ's Election He rest at the right hand of the Father after his triumph over the grave as all of His promises have already been kept..
In our election candidates will promise jobs, financial security to get elected.
In Christ election He promises and has delivered forgiveness of sins, peace with God, an eternal home paid by Him already.
If candidates do not get elected they will fall back on another job or personal wealth accumulated.
If your not elected by Christ you are dead in your sins.

Lots of views on election in the Bible-it is very important eternally to be of the elect.
John 6:37 says "All the Father gives me will come to Me, and THE ONE WHO COMES TO ME
I CERTAINLY WILL NOT CAST OUT. " [NASB]
Make sure you are elected!!!

Church Plant and keeping score

As we have started weekly services at Redeemer Baptist Church many friends of course have asked "how is the church going?"
Good question.
We had a revival the week before Easter-10 decisions to receive Christ-one being my son.
We had 50 at our first service.
We have had about 30 visitors different visitors the last month.
Lot's of things compete with church on Sunday. We have averaged about a dozen the last few weeks-but with visitors.

How do we we keep score?
2 baptisms, preaching? how doe you rate that? [I hope by biblical faithfulness
Music? We are trying to hit our stride.

We want new people but more importantly we want people to be saved through Christ alone and grow in faith and service.
We will start a series of new bible Studies in homes this summer in July.

As far as keeping score I have told our leadership team
we will use Matthew 6:33 "Seek first his kingdom and righteousness and all these things will be added to you." [NASB]

Worship

Worship seems to be a mystical and evasive term these days.
Old Testament worship consisted as praise prayers and sacrifice.
New Testament worship consists of praise prayers and sacrifice.
Jesus is our high priest and our sacrifice.
He is far more excellent than the blood of bulls and goats.

Why then can you neglect it.
What crazy thing out of Schofield Bible study notes taught you that the law is not in effect and their is no Sabbath command for you?
Worship-your soul needs it.
If you do not know Christ come and see what you do not know yet long for.
If you claim to be one of His-How can you live without it?

Tebow Haters-Besides the Gator Thing

Tebow.
Strong reaction to him. Love or hate. Why?
Sports Illustrated had a preseason article on him last summer.
I checked the letters to that magazine about that article two issues later.
Two letters praised his football ability and character written about in the article.
Six letters shredded Tim Tebow about things not in the article-his father's missionary society,
the orthodox Christians view and insistence about Jesus Christ Alone for salvation and end times Bible prophecy. Pure venom.
Why do people hate this young man [besides being a Gator]?
Certainty in his faith in Jesus Christ is why.
The world hates certainty-this makes you exclusive of other faiths-though you SHARE the gospel in obedience to Jesus Christ to save the world.
I have heard it and so have you, you know-"Who are you to say that only Christians are going to Heaven?" or "How could a loving God send anyone to Hell?" Jesus came "to seek and to save the lost." [Luke 19:10 ESV] The world objects to the very gospel that will save it.
Many football critics do not have to like Tebow. Many of Tebow's critics have a real problem with Jesus Christ.

Tebow displays certainty in his faith in Christ Alone and the world can not stand that.
Christ will not rise or fall on one NFL players career. Win or lose Tebow will praises his Savior.
The world really just can not stand that Savior part. They can turn the channell on Tebow.
One day the whole world will have to be deal with and be judged by the returning Christ.

How does God grade a church?

Redeemer has been blessed in her start.
We had OK numbers for revival and out first Sunday on Easter.
Our second Sunday at the end of spring break week the crowd was down as expected.
We baptized two new converts last Sunday evening.
We have some rock solid people in leadership.
We are small in numbers.

Are we going on God's path or man's pragmatic way.
I pray God will be with us and we have evangelism at the center of worship and discipleship.
I pray we will resist fads and get it going with teaching and training people from the word.

This Sunday we will preach John 3:30 "He must increase, but I must decrease."
Dig in with us the hard work it took for those to come to Christ is worth it.
Join us-hunkerdown let's go forward with an unwavering presentation of the gospel-It Works!

It's Launch Time For Our New Church Redeemer Baptist April 4Th 2010

Easter Sunday April 4TH 2010, 10:30 Riverside Chapel 989 Riverside drive, Gainesville, GA.
We will LAUNCH, start, begin weekly worship for the new church Redeemer Baptist Church.
We are staring for one reason- the Glory of God.
Why Redeemer as a name?
Galatians 3:13 says "Christ redeemed us from the law of sin and death".
We are Baptist because we are a free church.
Our motto is -We [W.E.E. worship, edify, evangelize] have to be the church.
We are not fad chasers but a people grounded in biblical preaching and theology.
Our focus is the unchurched.
Their is a focus on men in particular. Why?
Men must lead their family, children and friends-to church?
We want to have people "join".
they have to be redeemed by the substitutiony atonement of Jesus Christ.
Christ took the wrath of God intended for sinners like me. God His Father declared me righteous by the perfect life, death burial and resurrection of Jesus Chrisy through the grace of our Lord through substitutionary atonement.
We are not declaring Jesus as a way or as a life coach.
We will behold the lamb of God who is worthy to receive riches honor and praise.
We will answer the world when it asks "Are you saying why would God send people to hell?
with "Why would God let His Son die for a sinner like me?"
This Redeemer is worth giving your life to.

Gospel code words added to the gospel

Clarity is something that is lacking in Congress, local politics, relationships and religion.
A typical church will be called something like -"The Oasis".
Liberal or conservative or Baptist or Assembly of God or Conservative Anglican or social justice mainline-It does matter what you declare.
Our church plant Redeemer Baptist will be clear in it's declaration of the gospel.
We define the gospel as the perfect life, death and Resurrection. Christ took the wrath of God poured on Him at the cross intended for sinners. His people who have received grace receive the benefits of his glorious life and are declared righteous by God.
We will believe in things like propitiation and imputed righteousness in the substitutionary atonement.
We will not have life coaching, relational evangelism or teach you how to be a bigger better you.
- you and I are sinners and need a savior. We will strive to preach the gospel.
Concerning the most important thing in the world we will be clear.
Join us for revival at the Gainesville Civic center March 31, April 1&2 at 7:00 p.m.
Join us for our first weekly worship service on Easter Sunday at 10:30.

A Weak View of God from Just a Human

On the 9Marks blog I was reading an article about a person's "perception" of god. In a Bible study Mark Dever chided a student who gave a long rambling answer about how the student liked to imagine God. Mark Dever corrected the man and said in so many words-you told us a lot about yourself but nothing of the biblical God.
It stuck me my view of God is weak. Glasses will not cure it. Like an infant, as told in a college Sociology class, I can only think of God when I can see interaction between Him and my immediate world. Obviously I do not think He disappears. My selfishness is a symptom of the times. The sickness of a weak view of god results in a childlike high view of self and a non-biblical view of God.
"God Almighty" is used as a curse and not a realization today.
The Creator of Heaven and Earth. he knit me, and all creatures in our mother's womb. He created, is love, a consuming fire, is holy and faithful, and is a compassionate LORD who will judge all with finality. He describes Himself as long suffering and patient. He punishes sin.
Our very destiny and next breath stems from His good will.
He declares hell as punishment who live in lawlessness.
For His "own good pleasure" rewards those "born again" with eternal life. He chose to give me physical birth and for His glory chose to give me and others spiritual birth- for one good reason- not that he was lonely-nothing that we deserved - but by His glory and decree alone!
A Sovereign King created us with none of our input. he choose his own. But can't I reason i deserved it?
No. He gave me the capacity to reason- and could have chose not to.
All glory and power forever and ever.
He is THE Sovereign KING. Who sent His son Jesus Christ to atone for my sins to make me approachable to him in judgement?
Who am I?
Blessed beyond measure because of HIS sovereign good pleasure.

conversion

We will start weekly worship for Redeemer Baptist Church on Easter Sunday April 4Th 2010.

The preceding week we will have revival services at the Gainesville Civiv center

Wenesday April 31St, Thursdat April 1St, Friday April 2Nd [Youth Night] followed by a follow up Saturday as we head into our "launch" of weekly worship on Easter Sunday.

We are starting the church to reach the unchurched. Our particular focus is unchurched men- left out relationship to God by themselves and not wanted by the big churches targeting young and successful families.

I have been flooded with books and advice on church growth, tactics and strategies.

I have only one tactic.

Conversion.

From life to death.

People under sin now under grace.

Jesus Domianates [Weddings, the economy, death, hell, the grave, lives of the redeemed]

This morning in worship we heard from John 2:1-11.
The Bible text talked about the wedding at Cana where Jesus turned the water into wine.
Many people think this text deals with alcohol, weddings or obeying your mother.
The wedding party was out of water. Mary the mother of Jesus stated they are out of wine.
Jesus, though by his quotes in scripture, seemed reluctant to help.
He told the servants to put water in the water pots. It was more than 120 gallons according to scripture.
The wine was the last served but the best.
Was this passage about alcohol? No, though many have preached about drunkenness in this passage scripture does not indicate that.
Was this passage about weddings? No, though the Bible often uses wedding language.
Was this scripture about honoring your mother? No, though Jesus always cared and honored His mother.
This passage was what all passages are ultimately about they "manifested His glory". [John 2:11]
Football coaches like Alabama's Nick Saban talk about dominating every aspect of football.
Jesus dominates every aspect of life-weddings-the economy-families-death-hell-and the grave-AND THE LIVES OF TH REDEEMED!

He is worthy of worship.

Don't Tell Rick Warren I Preach Without a Hawaiin Shirt

We are starting the new Redeemer Baptist Church Easter Sunday April 4Th 10:30 a.m. at Riverside Chapel/Memorial Park.
We are not a very cool church for the reasons listed below.

1) We are going to have a revival the Wednesday,Thursday and Friday at the Gainesville Civic Center before our start on Easter Sunday. [This is way uncool]
2) I will not be wearing a Hawaiian Shirt, have highlights in my hair , tattoos or look in any way like I am in a boy band. [What was I not learning in seminary?]
3) Sermon series will be from passages from the Bible. [The Word of God will be the center of worship-not clever stories and life lessons.]
4) Worship, discipleship and evangelism will be from a biblical approach. [Other than that we can not figure out why their would be a church.]
5) We will work hard in outreach, evangelism and prayer. [I know that does not seem to be with it but come join us anyway.]
